Caitlin Cosme may have been snubbed from ACC accolades the past couple years, but Saturday, she received an even bigger reward.

Centre back Caitlin Cosme was drafted by the Orlando Pride 10th overall in the 2022 NWSL College Draft Saturday, Orlando trading up to acquire the pick from OL Reign to draft her. The super senior is the first Blue Devil to be drafted in the first round since 2018, and the highest-drafted Duke defender in NWSL history (since 2013). Former Blue Devil Morgan Reid played centre back for Orlando in 2019 and 2020.

Following her senior year, Cosme elected not to enter her name into the 2021 NWSL College Draft, where her classmate, attacking mid Tess Boade, went 40th overall. Cosme, Boade and holding mid Lily Nabet used their additional year of eligibility to return to Duke for 2021, and achieved their best season since their freshman year in 2017. The Blue Devils went 16-4-1 and fell a goal shy of reaching the Final Four.

Though she plans to become a surgeon in the future, Cosme will be joining the Pride and pursuing a professional career.
