DUPD officers were stationed along Duke University Road Tuesday afternoon during the search for a suspect.

Durham police closed Morehead Avenue between Kent Street and Anderson Street on Tuesday while they searched for a suspect.

During the search, Duke University Police Department officers were stationed along Duke University Road on the edge of campus. Durham police announced Tuesday afternoon that they had apprehended the suspect.

Durham police Capt. Brian Reitz told WRAL Tuesday afternoon that the person was suspected of multiple larcenies and had shot a police dog during a chase. WRAL reported later Tuesday that the dog had undergone surgery and was doing well.

The suspect was reported to be near Maplewood Cemetery, which is off campus, Michael Schoenfeld, Duke vice president for public affairs and government relations, wrote in a message to The Chronicle.

This is a developing story and will be updated if more information becomes available.
