A large crowd gathered on the Bryan Center Plaza Wednesday during an event with free cookies hosted by the Office of the Academic Deans in the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences.
"We will maintain socially distanced while sharing some moments of connection!" state emails to students promoting the event, from Trinity academic deans, but a Chronicle reporter observed groups of students standing closely together.
Martin Smith, Trinity dean of academic affairs, wrote in a Thursday afternoon email that "we didn't expect the response we received."
"However, we were pleased to see that everyone was wearing a mask which shows Duke students’ concern for their fellow students. We also appreciate the vigilance of the students," he wrote.
