It is hard to imagine how anyone could offer better leadership to any organization at Duke than Karen Blumenthal provided for The Chronicle during the past few decades.
As The Chronicle's editor-in-chief from 2009-2010 and later as an alumnus, I was fortunate to work with Karen during her time as co-chair of Duke Student Publishing Company's board. She was a steadfast and selfless advocate for The Chronicle and student journalism at Duke. She was also a generous and encouraging mentor for those of us who served as editor-in-chief while she led the board.
I am grateful to have known Karen and to have had her as a role model during my time at Duke and afterward. Although she is gone too soon, I am thankful The Chronicle benefited from her leadership for so many years.
