Head coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils lost a key piece Thursday afternoon.

Patrick Tape's stint as a Blue Devil lasted all of nine days.

The graduate transfer from Columbia decided to re-open his commitment Thursday afternoon, 247Sports' Evan Daniels reports. Tape had previously committed to Duke March 23.

Tape played three seasons at Columbia, and will be immediately eligible to play the 2020-21 season. The 6-foot-10 center would have been a cog in the Blue Devil frontcourt, replacing the minutes of graduating bigs Javin DeLaurier, Justin Robinson and Jack White and of likely NBA entrant Vernon Carey Jr.

This marks the second straight spring that the Blue Devils lost a key commit. Last May, point guard Boogie Ellis decommitted from Duke after the surprise return of Tre Jones and commitment of Cassius Stanley. Ellis spent his freshman season at Memphis, averaging 8.0 points per game as the Tigers' primary point guard.
