Contractor hits gas line near East Campus, leading to gas smell across the campus

UPDATE: The gas line that was broken off of East Campus, leading to a gas odor smelled by residents there, has been repaired, according to a tweet from Student Affairs.

Confused by the smell of gas on East Campus? You're not alone.

The smell comes from N. Buchanan Boulevard, where a contractor struck a gas line, according to a Working@Duke update. Crews are repairing the gas line with the Durham Fire Department on hand, the release noted. 

Two buildings were evacuated on East: Bishop House—which houses Duke Continuing Studies and Summer Session offices—and the Academic Advising building. 

Personnel have also been seen testing air quality on East.
