Charlotte North is on her way out of Durham after two consecutive seasons as the leading scorer for Duke.

For many teams, the summer is the prime time for changes and adjustments in hopes of improving from the previous season.

Duke may have experienced the biggest change of all—and it may have been for the worst. Earlier this month, incoming junior Charlotte North announced via Twitter that she would be transferring to Boston College for the remainder of her college years, meaning that the Blue Devils will be without their former leading scorer.

As an underclassman, North made a huge impact for the Blue Devils, finishing as the leading scorer by double digits in both her freshman and sophomore seasons. She also finished both years with the most assists on the team, which helped her earn a spot on the All-ACC second team in both of her seasons in Durham. Now, North will take her talents up north to play for the Eagles, a team that made it to the national championship last season, losing by just two goals to Maryland.

The Blue Devils will surely miss North’s presence as an offensive juggernaut and a leader of the squad.

“We appreciate Charlotte’s contributions to the Duke program over the past two seasons, and we wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors,” head coach Kerstin Kimel said.

Though North’s departure puts a big dent in Duke’s game plan for next season, all is not bleak for the Blue Devils. Duke recently added Nick Williams to its coaching staff in hopes of filling the hole left by North. Williams found success as an assistant coach for Georgetown for the past six years.

“I am so excited to welcome Nick and his wife Ryan to our Duke lacrosse family,” Kimel said in a release from the team. “Nick has been a steady fixture at our camps over the last eight years so he is very familiar with all things Duke lacrosse. Nick is well versed on the defensive side of the ball and has seen great success running versatile defenses everywhere he has been over the last decade.”
