Black Men's Union endorses Daisy Almonte for DSG president

The Black Men’s Union executive board recently had the pleasure of meeting with three candidates for President. We all were extremely impressed with the thoughtfulness and range of experiences represented by the candidates this year. We are extremely grateful that we got to engage in productive conversation with all of them.

After deliberating, the Black Men’s Union executive board has decided to endorse Daisy Almonte for Duke Student Government President. We were first struck by Daisy’s ability to speak to the experiences of people of color on campus. Her love for Duke and commitment to its students was illustrated in her work to defend undocumented students and in her work to help create a hate and bias policy. Daisy’s efforts to protect students and connect them to professional resources is a hallmark of her career at Duke thus far. She has been instrumental in creating a more livable campus for people of color makes the us more than confident that he will serve the campus well as DSG President.

Signed,

Corey Pilson, BMU President, on behalf of the the 2018-2019 Black Men’s Union Executive Board

*In compliance with the DSG Endorsement Policy, we are unable to endorse a candidate for Executive Vice President because we did not speak to all of the candidates.
