Just a few moments after quarterback Daniel Jones declared for the NFL Draft, it was announced the Blue Devils will also be without an All-American next season.
Duke linebacker Joe Giles-Harris announced his decision to forgo his senior season and leave for the professional ranks Monday afternoon in a statement. Giles-Harris, a redshirt junior and two-year captain, has served as a key member of the Blue Devil defense for the last three seasons. Giles-Harris led the team in tackles in each campaign, earned an All-American selection in 2017 and first team All-ACC honors in both 2017 and 2018.
"The last four years of my life have been some of the best. It has been a blessing and privilege to wear Duke blue and represent this great university," Giles-Harris said in the statement. "After much thought, I have decided to forgo my last year of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft to pursue my lifelong dream of playing professional football."
The 6-foot-2, 229-pound linebacker missed the Blue Devils' last four contests due to an MCL injury sustained against Miami Nov. 3. The Nyack, N.Y., native's knee injury is not expected to be a factor for NFL teams.
