With normal starter Donovan Mitchell banged up, recent Duke graduate Grayson Allen notched his first career start for the Utah Jazz.

Allen saw limited action prior to Friday night, notching just 41 total minutes in the Jazz’s first seven contests, struggling for playing time in a crowded Utah backcourt.

The former Blue Devil captain struggled in his team’s 110-100 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, with just 9 points, 1 assist and 4 fouls in 27 minutes. In addition to failing to notch a rebound, block or steal in the game, Allen had a -18 plus/minus, the worst on the team.

Despite the underwhelming performance on the stat sheet, the Jacksonville, Fla. native flashed the athleticism that frequently electrified the crowd at Cameron Indoor Stadium during his time at Duke.

Allen will return to a reserve role shortly, as Mitchell will return from his tight hamstring soon.
