The intersection near Swift Avenue and West Pettigrew Street, near East Campus, is closed due to a fatal train accident that took place around 7:15 a.m. Thursday morning.

The accident killed one pedestrian, who is not yet known to be affiliated with the University, according to Duke Today. Durham Police are currently investigating the incident and did not know when the road would open. The Amtrak train had recently departed the station and likely had not accelerated to full speed, according to ABC11.

The Duke buses typically running through the intersection have modified their routes to avoid the road closure according to Duke Today. The C2: East-Central-West and C3 buses will bypass Swift Avenue and use Campus Drive for that portion of the route.
