Duke issues statement in response to Supreme Court decision on travel ban

The Supreme Court upheld President Donald Trump's controversial travel ban in a 5-4 ruling Tuesday, sparking a response from the University.

President Vincent Price issued a formal statement to the ruling Wednesday afternoon in a Duke Today release.

“While we are disappointed that the Supreme Court chose to uphold even the limited version of a travel ban, this decision does not in any way diminish our commitment to supporting members of our university community who come to Duke from around the world for opportunities to teach, learn and discover new knowledge," Price stated.

He went on to say the free exchange of ideas can coexist with security.

"We continue to believe that our educational mission, and the free exchange of ideas and scholarship, can co-exist with safety, security and protection from those who seek to cause harm to our country," Price stated.
