The severe weather and emergency conditions policy for Duke and the hospital system has been extended to 10 a.m. Friday, according to the DukeAlert website.

All classes beginning before 10 a.m. are canceled, the website noted. Duke will return to normal operations afterward. In its reasoning for the delay, it also said that temperatures were expected rise above freezing by Friday morning.

"Crews have made extraordinary efforts during the night and early morning to clear and salt all priority 1 roads and sidewalks on the university and medical center campus," the DukeAlert read.

Classes were previously cancelled for Wednesday and Thursday after more than six inches of snow blanketed the campus.
