ACC Watch: Louisville dismantled by No. 16 Kentucky

Every night of the college basketball season, the Blue Zone will bring you updates on all of the important ACC matchups.

In the first significant action for ACC teams after the holiday break, Kentucky handed it to Louisville Friday:

No. 16 Kentucky 90, Louisville 61

In their first time in years playing their in-state rivals without ex-head coach Rick Pitino, the Cardinals couldn't shoot from beyond the arc and got in foul trouble. That won't fly against the Wildcats.

Louisville made just 3-of-25 threes and was outscored 42-30 in the paint while its biggest frontcourt weapon, Anas Mahmoud, spent most of the game on the bench and fouled out. The Cardinals had struggled early with two straight losses to Purdue and Seton Hall, but had rattled off six straight wins before falling to Kentucky. Freshman guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way off the bench for the Wildcats with 24 points and five boards in 33 minutes.

The other scores:

Virginia Tech 76, North Carolina A&T 59 (Thursday)

Syracuse 62, Eastern Michigan 47 (Wednesday)

Georgia Tech 76, Coppin State 62 (Wednesday)

Check back tomorrow results from a huge day in the conference—the start of ACC play.
