First-years selected Duke Student Government senators for their class Thursday and Friday.
This year, 25 candidates ran for ten elected Class of 2021 seats. More than 40 percent of first-years voted in this election. Attorney General Sabriyya Pate, a junior, attributed the turn out to a variety of DSG initiatives, including the creation of a Board of Elections.
"The work to achieve a student government that works for all of us, regardless of socioeconomic class, gender identity, sexuality, religion, disability status, racial and ethnic background, affiliation status, and more, will continue throughout this year and onwards," Pate wrote. "Thanks to feedback from the first elections exit poll, we are even more excited to get working on more initiatives for the spring semester elections."
