Of the Duke undergraduate student population, 34% belong to a Greek-lettered organization. Fraternity and Sorority Life consists of four governing councils, the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), the Panhellenic Association (Panhel), and the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC). IFC—composed of 17 fraternity chapters including Psi Upsilon, Duke’s only co-ed social fraternity. NPHC—composed of eight historically Black Greek-lettered fraternities and sororities. NPHC is known for its annual Homecoming Step Show and NPHC Week. Panhel—made up of 10 National Panhellenic Conference organizations. MGC—houses Duke’s multicultural/cultural Greek-lettered organizations, including three Asian-interest chapters, two Latino/a based organizations, one South Asian-interest fraternity, and one multicultural sorority. Selective Living Groups (SLGs) These student-initiated communities can be purely social in nature or based upon a fundamental, intellectual or cultural theme. Current members of an SLG select new members through a recruitment program.
