NBA Commissioner Adam Silver received an award from the political science department last year and will speak on campus again during senior Class Day in May.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Trinity '84, will speak at this year's Class Day ceremony during graduation weekend, Nandita Singh, senior class president, announced in an email to seniors Friday afternoon.

The first ever Class Day ceremony was held last year for graduating seniors to reflect on their Duke experiences and featured speeches from prominent University figures, including Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Christoph Guttentag and Larry Moneta, vice president for student affairs.

Silver was also on campus during graduation weekend last year, when he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the political science department.

Silver, who took over as NBA commissioner Feb. 1, 2014, joined Duke's Board of Trustees last July. The Trustees convene each May during graduation weekend.

The University of Chicago law school graduate will not be the only notable basketball figure speaking during graduation weekend, as head coach Mike Krzyzewski will deliver the commencement address to the Class of 2016 May 15.
