Jahlil Okafor to miss 6 weeks after tests reveal partial meniscus tear

Jahlil Okafor's adventuresome rookie season in the NBA may be over.

The Philadelphia 76ers center will undergo an arthroscopic procedure after suffering a slight tear in his right meniscus, the team announced Friday. Okafor had missed the Sixers' last five games after dealing with right knee soreness.

The No. 3 pick in last June's NBA draft is expected to return to basketball activities in six weeks, which would officially be April 22, nine days after the Sixers play their last regular season contest. Okafor had scored 20 or more points in three of his last five games prior to the injury, and put together the best month of his career in February with 18.5 points per game, even as the Sixers went 1-11 in that stretch.

Okafor averaged 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in his first year in Philadelphia, The 6-foot-11 big man also dealt with several high-profile off-court incidents that warranted a two-game suspension handed down by the team in early December.

The Sixers sit at 8-56 so far this season.
