Sophomore Adam Wood and junior Max Greyserman tied for ninth at the Kiawah Classic, which was called after 36 holes due to inclement weather.

Duke walked off the course Monday tied for third, eager to get back out there and challenge for the lead Tuesday.

Mother Nature had other ideas.

Thanks to heavy rain at Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C., play was suspended Tuesday afternoon before teams were able to complete the third and final round. Some teams made it through as many as seven holes before play at the Kiawah Classic was halted for good, and the scores following Monday’s second round were used as the final numbers for the tournament.

The No. 7 Blue Devils finished tied for third place with Augusta at one-under-par, two of just four teams to score in the red numbers after 36 holes of play. No. 23 Virginia took second place with a five-under-par score, and Charleston Southern claimed the title thanks to a blistering nine-under-par second round that carried the Buccaneeers to a 10-under-par mark.

Sophomore Adam Wood and junior Max Greyserman finished in a tie for ninth place and carried Duke Monday with a pair of sub-70 rounds. With favorable conditions on the course, Wood started off his second round with an eagle on the 549-yard, par-5 second hole—only to give a stroke back with a bogey on the very next hole. The Zionsville, Ind., native turned on the jets on the back nine, though, posting three birdies and no bogeys to finish at four-under-par for the day—the best round of for any Blue Devil in the tournament.

After an up-and-down even par round in Sunday’s opening day of play, Greyserman fired a three-under-par 69 to earn his first top-10 finish of the year. The junior played the course's four par 5s at five-under-par Monday—a big reason why he led the field in scoring on the par 5s for the tournament—but a triple-bogey on the par-4 ninth prevented him from really making his way up the leaderboard.

Sophomore Jake Shuman and freshman Alex Smalley rounded out the scoring quartet for Duke Monday, posting rounds of 72 and 73, respectively. The duo finished the tournament with identical scores of three-over-par, tying for 32nd.

Junior Matt Oshrine was not far behind, putting up back-to-back rounds of four-over-par 74 to head home in a tie for 40th. Competing as an individual, junior Alexander Matlari carded two consecutive 76s and finished at a combined eight-over-par.

With the Kiawah Classic ending prematurely, the Blue Devils closed out their fall schedule and now face several months of rest before they return to the course for competition in mid-February.
