BSA will not endorse any DSG presidential candidate

The Black Student Alliance Executive Board convened Sunday March 1st to interview Keizra Mecklai and Tucker Albert for Duke Student Government president.

After extensive discussion amongst the executive board, the Black Student Alliance has chosen not to endorse a candidate for DSG president this year. Keizra and Tucker both demonstrated relevant experience to fulfill the role of DSG president and had a lot of involvement within the organization.

When coming to a decision, the board was challenged by both candidates’ seemingly limited understanding of black experiences on Duke’s campus. While we were pleased with both candidates’ concerns with campus safety, we felt their platforms as a whole didn’t adequately address inclusivity for underrepresented minorities.

The endorsement meetings were great opportunities for enlightening discussions on black issues and we hope moving forward that the elected president works to create a more culturally conscious Duke.
