Recruiting Roundup: Swanigan makes unofficial visit, Kennard to hold official signing ceremony Wednesday

In a quiet week for Duke basketball recruiting, there was one piece of major news: the Blue Devils may not be done adding to the 2015 class. First reported by Evan Daniels of Scout.com, and then later confirmed by Adam Rowe of 24/7 sports, Caleb Swanigan spent the weekend at Duke for his unofficial visit.

The 6-foot-8, 275-pound Fort Wayne, Ind., native had previously been connected to Duke, but after the Chase Jeter signing many, assumed the big man would go elsewhere. Currently rated No. 8 on ESPN and 12th on 24/7 Sports for the class of 2015, Swanigan certainly is an elite talent.

He is capable of being one of the top players in the class and was thought to be one of the best rebounders in the Nike EYBL this season. In addition, Swangian can take over games from the low post with an array of powerful moves and is a high-energy defender. Before this news, Swanigan was thought to be down to Michigan State, Arizona and Louisville, with the Spartans as heavy favorites.

In fact, before coming to Duke, Swanigan actually was on his unofficial visit to presumed favorite Michigan State. Moreover, althouh this may not mean anything in the long term, it is interesting to note that Swanigan left East Lansing on the eve of the Ohio State game this weekend, to fly to Durham to watch Duke play an exhibition game.

This could simply be a result of Swanigan’s busy schedule, but one would think if Swanigan was leaning heavily to Michigan State, he would stick around to see the school’s biggest football game in years. Instead, the big man paid for himself to fly to watch an exhibiton game against Central Missouri. With Swanigan being an top recruit and almost ideal fit in the post alongside Jeter, this is certainly a recruitment we will follow closely and continue to update with more details.

As for other recruiting news, Brandon Ingram’s camp has still been silent about his announcement. With the early signing period beginning this Wednesday, it is possible we see an announcement, however at this point, it seems more likely to occur in the spring.

Speaking announcement, sharp-shooting wing Luke Kennard's signing ceremony will be held Nov. 12th at 6:30 p.m. in his high school’s cafeteria. The 6-foot-5 lefty was the first to join the 2015 recruiting class way back in March and will finally make it official Wednesday night.
