Class of 2014 center Goodluck Okonoboh committed to UNLV on ESPNU this week, picking the Rebels over Duke, Florida, Indiana and Ohio State. While Duke was still officially on his list, Adam Rowe of Blue Devil Lair had said earlier in the week that the Blue Devils were no longer recruiting him.
That leaves Duke's big man targets in the class as Jahlil Okafor, Myles Turner, Reid Travis and Kevon Looney. All of them hold offers from Duke with Travis and Looney visiting separately in September. Rowe hears that Travis is down to Duke and Stanford, pitting former Duke player and assistant Johnny Dawkins against his former coach and boss.
Okafor, the consensus No. 1 player in the class, is set to visit Duke on the weekend of Oct. 25, a visit he had previously scheduled with the top point guard in the class, Tyus Jones. The two are close friends and have stated on multiple occasions they will likely play college ball together. Now joining them on their official visit will be 2014 small forward Justise Winslow, according to reports, who at different points has been rumored to be a third part of an Okafor-Jones package. Although Duke has been seen as the favorites for that duo, Kansas also is rumored to be in the mix. Kansas is also on Winslow's list.
Turner has yet to release all the schools he will officially visit, but Kansas, Duke and Texas are among them, he told Rowe.
Meanwhile, looking ahead to the class of 2015, Duke associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski watched small forward Matt Ryan work out, according to Adam Zagoria. Though he's not rated among the top recruits in the class according to ESPN, he holds offers from a number of mid-majors and one ACC school in Boston College.
Wojo has been busy on the trail, also watching 2015 recruits Tyler Dorsey and Ben Simmons, per Rowe's always info-filled Blue Devil Bites. Simmons, a power forward, and Dorsey, a shooting guard, are both ranked in ESPN's top 10. Meanwhile, he says, Duke hasn't been in touch with fellow top 2015 recruit Malik Newman in a while.
