Harry Giles, ranked the No. 1 player in the Class of 2016 by ESPN, underwent surgery Wednesday at Duke University Hospital to repair a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus he suffered more than a month ago. A Winston-Salem, N.C. native, Giles will miss his entire sophomore season at Wesleyan Christian Academy. He was released from the hospital this morning, and a message from his Twitter account yesterday indicates that the surgery was successful.

The 6-foot-9 forward suffered the injury while competing for the United States in the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Uruguay. Giles has not yet received an offer from Duke, but he was expected to receive one in the coming year. There is no telling how the injury will affect this, and whether or not the Blue Devil coaching staff wants to see how Giles recovers before further pursuing his recruitment.
Giles received a scholarship offer from North Carolina when he was just 14 years old, and an offer from N.C. State shortly followed. Wesleyan Christian enters the 2013-14 season as the defending state champions in North Carolina, but will have to rely more heavily on Tar Heel commit Theo Pinson with Giles out of the picture.
