Report: Army vet Casey Carroll seeks sixth year of eligibility with Duke lacrosse

The Associated Press reported Saturday that Duke will petition the NCAA for a sixth season of eligibility for defenseman Casey Carroll.

Generic Script

Carroll returned to Duke for a fifth season after serving four and a half years in Afghanistan and Iraq with the Army's 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He is currently enrolled in Duke's Fuqua School of Business.

Carroll was a first-team All-American during his senior season in 2007. He was granted a fifth season of eligibility by the NCAA after Duke cancelled its 2006 season amid rape allegations. Carroll was slated to factor into the Blue Devils' defensive rotation this season, but tore his ACL before the season began.

He is 28 years old and his wife, Erin, gave birth to their first son, Casey, shortly after the couple returned to Durham. Carroll's longtime friend and college teammate Matt Danowski is now a Blue Devil assistant.
