Anunike granted medical hardship waiver

Duke received a huge boost to its 2012 roster Friday, as the NCAA granted defensive end Kenny Anunike a sixth year of eligibility. Based on the ruling, the Galena, Ohio native is eligible for both the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Anunike missed his freshman season in 2008 while recovering from knee surgery. He played the next season at tight end and on special teams before head coach David Cutcliffe shifted him to defensive end prior to the 2010 season.

He played in four games last season, registering four sacks before tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee against Tulane Sept. 24. He has missed all of spring practice recovering from the injury.
