Duke has accepted 648 of the record 2,641 students who applied to Duke under the early decision program.
The admitted students, who were notified Wednesday at 6 p.m., will make up 38 percent of the Class of 2016, according to a duke news release Wednesday. Of the 648 students, 526 were accepted to Trinity College of Arts & Sciences and 122 were accepted into the Pratt School of Engineering. The total size of the Class of 2016 is projected to be 1,705 students.
According to the release, 30 percent of the early decision admits are of minority groups and 7 percent are international students. New York, California, North Carolina, Florida and Texas are the states with the highest representation in this group, though Georgia, Illinois, Indiana and Massachusetts are four of seven states to see notable increases in admits.
In 2010, the University accepted 645 students via the early decision process at an early decision acceptance rate of 29.2 percent. The acceptance rate of early decision applicants this year was a record low 24.5 percent.
Given the growing interest, the early decision process is becoming more competitive than in years past, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Christoph Guttentag said in the release.
