NC Comedy Arts Festival

We're jumping on this incredibly late, but it bears mentioning nonetheless. The NC Comedy Arts Festival has grown immensely since a few hundred improvisers descending on Chapel Hill for a weekend back in 2001. Hosted by Carrboro's DSI Comedy Theater, it has since evolved into one of the largest comedy festivals in the country, and the largest in the Southeast. Last week was the stand-up portion and this week is the improv.

A full schedule of events is available online, but tonight's show at the Cat's Cradle promises to be incredible. Chicago-based the Beatbox mixes improv and hip-hop to provide one of the most unique and funniest comedy experiences around. And Death by Roo Roo, from New York's UCB (Amy Poehler name drop), is one of the most amazing improv experiences you can ever have. I've seen them twice and it was hilarious, but the more stunning thing is what they do with improv. It is more appropriate to call it art than comedy. Tickets for that show can be purchased here. It should be a great show.
