HBO Documentary To Air Feb. 23

Duke fans, set your DVRs.

HBO's previously announced documentary exploring the rivalry between Duke and North Carolina, officially titled "Battle For Tobacco Road: Duke vs. Carolina" will premiere Feb. 23 at 9 p.m., the network announced in a release today.

"I’ve been to a lot of sporting events–including Michigan-Ohio St. at the Horseshoe and the Big House–and there’s nothing that can even begin to compare to that experience," director and producer George Roy told The Chronicle in June, when the project was first announced.

HBO Sports, which produced a similar documentary delving into Michigan and Ohio State's football rivalry, has been at work on the project since last year, and had planned for a release around March to coincide with the NCAA Tournament. We've heard plans that HBO was looking to offer an advance screening in the Triangle in front of a crowd that was half Duke fans and half Carolina fans, but there is nothing official about that yet.

The list of people interviewed for the film include: Dean Smith, Mike Krzyzewski, Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Charlie Scott, Grant Hill, Johnny Dawkins, Christian Laettner, Vic Bubas and J.J. Redick.
