Duke's new women's basketball coach will be former Michigan State head coach Joanne P. McCallie, a source close to the situation confirmed Wednesday.
Athletics officials informed the team at a 2 p.m. meeting that the University had hired McCallie to take over for Gail Goestenkors, who left Duke for Texas earlier this month.
She will be formally introduced at a press conference at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
McCallie has coached the Spartans for seven years, leading them to the NCAA title game in 2005. She earned the Associated press Coach of the Year award after that season.
The hire comes one week after the initial front-runner for the job, Cal's Joanne Boyle, turned down her alma mater to remain with the Golden Bears.
