Paulus injures left foot in practice

Sophomore point guard Greg Paulus, one of Duke's three captains for the upcoming season, injured his left foot in a drill during Saturday's practice, associate athletic director Jon Jackson confirmed Sunday night.

Paulus will be reevaluated by Duke's medical team Monday, at which time the program will be more specific about the nature of the injury, Jackson said.

Several students reported seeing Paulus heavily favoring his left foot Saturday.

Paulus had his right wrist operated on after the end of last season, and he said during Friday's preseason press conference this summer was the longest period of his life he had gone without athletic activity.

With Paulus likely sidelined, Duke's options at point guard will include junior DeMarcus Nelson and freshman Jon Scheyer--neither of whom was recruited as a primary ball handler.

"Everybody has to contribute," Paulus said before the injury Friday. "We don't have two guys or a few guys to lean on. Everybody has to contribute with their parts. And we understand that, being so young and not having that many established players."
