Shavlik Randolph has decided to remain eligible for the NBA Draft June 28, rather than return to Duke for his senior season.
He informed the coaching staff Tuesday afternoon, Duke Sports Information Director Jon Jackson confirmed. Randolph had until 5 p.m. today to withdraw his name and maintain his college eligibility.
His decision comes after weeks of speculation regarding whether he would return, and it contradicts what he had said following a workout with the Charlotte Bobcats.
“My intentions are to come back to Duke because I think we’ll have a chance to do something special next year,” Randolph told the Associated Press June 6. “I don’t want to rule out any options, but that’s been my intention all along.”
Randolph averaged just 4.4 points and 4.3 rebounds as a junior, starting 20 games. A highly-touted high school recruit, the Raleigh native has been plagued throughout his college career by injuries and illness.
