A female student said she was sexually assaulted Friday night between 10:30 and 11 p.m. in a wooded area near West Campus.
The victim was walking by herself when she was attacked from behind by an unknown assailant. After the assault she returned to her apartment, whereupon her friends notified the Duke University Police Department about the incident. The victim was taken to the Duke University Medical Center and was treated and released. The DUPD did not release a suspect description.
The incident is the third such report of sexual assault on campus since 2002. The other reported assaults took place at Wannamaker Dormitory and Randolph Dormitory bathrooms.
