Lax competes against ACCs today

The No. 13 men's lacrosse team is in Charlottesville, Va., this weekend, competing in the ACC tournament, where it will try to simultaneously capture the team's third straight conference championship and salvage a season which up until now has been disappointing.

If Duke is able to win the title, its chances for a bid to the NCAA tournament increase dramatically. Otherwise there will likely not be a post-season for the Blue Devils.

Duke is set to play top ranked Maryland Friday night.

The Terrapins beat the Blue Devils 13-7 in College Park more than a month ago although Duke has ousted its conference rival from the ACCs the last two years.

The Blue Devils come into Friday's contest in the midst of a slump, winning just one of their last five games while Maryland enters on a roll, winning three of its last four. Maryland is coming off a 6-5 overtime loss to No. 1 Johns Hopkins.

Yesterday the Terrapins placed four on the All-ACC conference team: Senior defender Michael Howley, senior attackman Mike Mollot, junior defender Chris Passavia and senior midfielder Ryan Moran.

Should Duke defeat Maryland Friday, it will face the winner of the Virginia-North Carolina game Sunday afternoon.
