Letter: Understand the war situation before walking out

As I walked across the East Campus quadrangle, I was stopped by several students attempting to hand me a flyer about walking out of class to protest the war. I refused the flyer, at which time I was told to try thinking for myself. I told him the same thing right back.

There are many reasons to protest this impending war. And if, after serious research and consideration on the matter, a fellow student decides to walk out of class in protest, I will respect her decision. However, I implore my fellow students to not follow blindly the example of a few student protesters who don't fully understand the situation themselves. If you feel that strongly against the war, you can do better than a walkout.

Educate yourself, write a letter to your Congressman and vote in the next election. I support a regime change in Iraq; you may not. But do not allow a wasteful flurry of paper flyers to decide for you. Think before walking out.
