Letter: Chronicle endorsements favor the wrong candidates

As the one true source with the means to reach the vast majority of the Duke community, The Chronicle has done the student body a disservice in its endorsements for Duke Student Government executive board. In its Feb. 14 editorial, The Chronicle proclaimed that the previous night's DSG meeting "ended with petty personal politics preventing DSG from accomplishing much of anything of substance."

While The Chronicle should be applauded for pointing out DSG's problems, it eliminated any positive contribution by endorsing the wrong candidates for the upcoming election. How the editors can endorse DSG insiders is beyond me.

People like Alex Niejelow may talk a good game, but their flowery prose should not be enough to fool the Duke community. Current DSG members are ineffective, and The Chronicle is only adding to the problem by mindlessly telling you to vote for them.

Today, vote for change in DSG. Add new blood to the mix by electing Kevin Ogorzalek for vice president for facilities and athletics and Taylor Collison for president. The Chronicle cites lack of experience as the reason for not endorsing Ogorzalek; however in my eyes, this is his greatest asset.

Together, the only thing Ogorzalek and Collison lack are hidden agendas that have reared their ugly heads in DSG for entirely too long. Stand up and make a change this week or else see DSG fall deeper into the pits of inefficiency.
