Man charged with alcohol possession

The Duke University Police Department responded to a noise complaint in Epworth Dormitory at 2:15 a.m. Oct. 15. Upon arrival, an officer found a student on the second floor hallway with an alcoholic drink in his hand.

The hallway had a make-shift table made of plywood and trash cans. Beer and cups containing mixed drinks were on top of the table, and a beer bong was on the floor. Freshman Christopher John Carr, 203 Epworth, was charged with possession of liquor while being under the age of 21. Carr had no comment.

Student charged for marijuana

A Duke University Police officer responded at 1:30 a.m. Oct. 10 to Edens 1A room 410 in reference to the smell of marijuana. Subsequent investigation resulted in the room's resident, sophomore Stephen Coit, being charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of beer by a person under 21. His court date is Nov. 11. Coit could not be reached for comment.

Purse purloined

Someone broke into an employee's vehicle while it was parked in Parking Garage II and stole her $50 purse containing $80 cash and checkbook between 2:45 p.m. and 11 p.m. Oct. 7.

Stolen car found

A four-door 1988 burgundy Oldsmobile (N.C. license plate PZN-6298) was discovered at the entrance to 215 Anderson Street with a male subject sleeping in the driver's seat Oct. 14 at 4:10 a.m. Subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen in Raleigh. Quinton Hargrove, alias "Q," was charged with larceny of a stolen vehicle. His bond was placed at $5,000. Hargrove could not be reached for comment.

Employee reports encounter

An employee reported that a student struck him in the back with an open hand Oct. 15 at 7:24 p.m. He did not wish to press charges.

Man attempts knife attack

A patient in the Emergency Department at the Medical Center attempted to attack a nurse and two Duke officers with a knife Oct. 8 at 1:38 a.m. He was subdued and prevented from injuring anyone else. He was charged with assault on public officials and on medical personnel.

Cash taken from Cameron

Someone entered an employee's office in Cameron Indoor Stadium and stole $6,000 cash between 9 a.m. Oct. 14 and 9 a.m. Oct. 15. There were no signs of forced entry.

Laptop stolen

Someone stole a $1,000 Compaq laptop computer (serial number 6D19JCZZC04Y) from the Great Schools and Families Program at 2200 West Main Street between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 9.

Money taken from safe

A Classic Food employee reported that between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Oct. 9 someone entered his vehicle, cut the padlock to a safe and stole $900 cash.

Tables swiped from WEL

Someone stole two $300 small cocktail tables from the fourth floor tower of the West-Edens Link between 1:30 p.m. Oct. 5 and 6:45 a.m. Oct. 7.

Bike and chain lifted

Someone stole a student's Univega $350 24-speed yellow bicycle and $20 cable lock between 10 p.m. Sept. 30 and 8:30 p.m. Oct. 7.

Radio taken from car at Gross Chem

Someone stole a student's radio from his vehicle that was parked in the Gross Chemistry lot between 10 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. Oct. 9. There were no signs of forced entry.

Man loses wallet in Hospital

A visitor reported he discovered his $25 wallet containing $30 cash, credit cards and driver's license was missing. He last knew he had his wallet at 2 a.m. while at a Duke Hospital cafeteria.

Apartment vandalized

On two occasions, someone removed four screws from the exterior door frame of a student's apartment. There did not appear to be any attempted entry to his apartment.

Cash stolen from Law School

Someone entered an employee's unsecured office in the Law School and stole three pretzel jars containing around $100 cash intended as a donation to the Durham Rape Crises Center between 12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Oct. 12.

Cellular phone, watch taken

Someone entered a student's unlocked room in House I while he was sleeping between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11 and stole his $150 Sprint 460 cellular phone, $200 Ecodrive Citizen watch with a silver-colored band and $25 cash.

Playstation, games pilfered

Someone entered a student's unlocked room in House O between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. Oct. 12 and stole his $250 Sony Playstation 2 and two controllers and $60 Playstation 2 game "Grand Theft Auto III."

Fridge stolen from Clinic

Someone stole a $125, two-and-a-half-cubic feet Frigidair refrigerator from the first floor hall of Duke Clinic between 5 p.m. Oct. 4 and 8 a.m. Oct. 7.

Wallet taken from Jones Building

Someone entered an employee's unlocked office on the second floor of Jones Building and stole a $15 wallet containing credit cards, checkbook and driver's license between 10:45 and 11 a.m. Oct. 7.

Patient's pills pilfered

Someone entered a patient's room in 3100 Duke North Hospital while she was out between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Oct. 14 and stole 50 $1 Dilaudid pills from her purse.

A student reported that while he was playing basketball at Wilson Recreation Center between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Oct. 15, someone took his $30 wallet containing $80 cash, credit cards, driver's license and Fuqua School of Business identification card from the jeans.

A student reported he placed his $30 wallet containing $140 cash, credit cards and driver's license on a table in the computer cluster located at 218 Alexander Street between 11:30 p.m. Oct. 7 and 12:30 p.m. Oct. 8. He could not find his wallet when he returned to search for it.

Someone cut a four-and-a-half-foot long tear into the $25 screen on a student's sliding glass door at 220 Alexander Street and caused $50 in damage from dents near the door knocker between 11:45 p.m. Oct. 5 and 4 a.m. Oct. 6.

While an employee's vehicle was parked in the H parking lot on Hillsborough Road between 8:30 a.m. Oct. 15 and 5:06 p.m. Oct. 15, someone pried the front passenger window out of its track, causing $50 damage and $100 damage to the lock and latch of the glove box.

While an employee's unsecured vehicle was parked in the H parking lot located at Yearby and Anderson Street between 7:45 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Oct. 11, someone stole $2 cash and a $66 parking decal (H-3530).

A visitor reported that between 6:45 p.m. and 9:18 p.m. Oct. 13, she secured her property in a locker in the women's locker room at the Washington Duke Inn. Someone entered the locker and stole her $70 silver Citizen wristwatch, $160 cash, driver's license and Social Security cards. There were no signs of forced entry.

While her vehicle was parked in the Beta parking lot between 12 a.m. Oct. 12 and 4:30 a.m. Oct. 13, someone stole a student's $25 license plate (N.C. PYA-1951).

Someone broke into a student's locker in the Card Gym soccer team room between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Oct. 6 and stole his $10 wallet containing credit cards, Social Security card and driver's license. He discovered that one of his cards had been used at several businesses.
