Q&A: Duke professor Munger discusses Gary Johnson endorsement, two-party system

Michael Munger, professor of political science and director of the philosophy, politics and economics certificate program, has endorsed third-party Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson for president. Munger himself mounted an unsuccessful Libertarian bid for North Carolina governor in 2008. The Chronicle’s Neelesh Moorthy talked with Munger over email about his endorsement of Johnson and his criticism of the two-party system. 






Senior Thamina Stoll discusses live-tweeting Munich shooting, aftermath

Gunmen opened fire Friday at a shopping center in Munich, Germany, killing at least nine people. Munich police are still searching for the suspected three shooters, and the incident is being treated as a potential terrorist attack. Senior Thamina Stoll, a Munich native, witnessed the attacks and live-tweeted them as they occurred. The Chronicle's Neelesh Moorthy spoke with Stoll Friday afternoon about what went through her mind during the shootings and the immediate aftermath.



Texas Supreme Court Justice and Duke alum Don Willett discusses career, judicial philosophy

Earlier this year, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump issued a list of judges he would consider nominating to the Supreme Court. Among the justices was Duke alum and current Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett, Law School ’92, who recently returned to Duke for the Law School’s LLM program. The Chronicle’s Neelesh Moorthy spoke with Willett about his time at Duke, his time on the bench and his Twitter habits.



Co-chairs of task force on bias and hate issues reflect on recommendations, success of committee

Last month, the University’s task force on bias and hate issues released its final report to President Richard Brodhead and the student body. Duke administrators have since announced plans to consider the report’s recommendations for the upcoming year. The Chronicle’s Neelesh Moorthy spoke with the task force’s co-chairs—Kelly Brownell, dean of the Sanford School of Public Policy, and Linda Burton, dean of social sciences—about their work and how their report can lead to changes in campus culture.
