About a month ago on a late Tuesday night, I was in The Chronicle’s office finishing production with several other editors when we saw a Fix My Campus post saying the first floor of Perkins was flooded. Five of us quickly grabbed a camera and rushed over to see what happened. We didn’t know if the flood would be worth an article, but we were curious.

Durham Public Schools superintendent Mubenga talks teacher turnover, other challenges

Pascal Mubenga became superintendent of Durham Public Schools in November. Mubenga, who was previously superintendent of Franklin County Public Schools, has since visited more than a dozen schools and spoken with community groups and parents to learn more about Durham. Incoming Duke Global Health Institute director discusses interest in malaria, plans for position

Christopher Plowe, the founding director of the Institute for Global Health at the University of Maryland’s School of Medicine, will take over as director of the Duke Global Health Institute in January. Plowe will succeed Michael Merson, who stepped down in June. The Chronicle spoke with Plowe about his transition to becoming director and his vision for DGHI. Former Deputy Treasury Secretary talks Rubenstein Fellows appointment, government experience

Sarah Bloom Raskin, who served as deputy secretary of the Department of the Treasury in the Obama administration for three years, became a Rubenstein Fellow in August. At Duke, Raskin will spend the next three years working with students and faculty to study financial markets and regulations. She will also guest lecture courses and advise students on careers in the public sector. The Chronicle spoke with Raskin about some of her goals for her tenure at the University.
