The opinions in the daily editorial are formulated by 15 voting members of the board, who, as an independent group, are explicitly prohibited for writing or editing for other daily or weekly sections. Three ex-officio non-voting members serve in an advisory capacity based on other positions they hold in The Chronicle.
The members of the editorial board have diverse interests and a depth of knowledge about the University and the local community. The editorials are anonymously written by one voting member present at the meeting.
In an effort to be transparent, names and biographies of the members formulating the opinion, as well as non-voting members, are posted below.
Members of the 2014-2015 Editorial Board
Tiffany Lieu, Editorial Board Chair. Tiffany is a Trinity senior from Seattle, Washington, studying history, english and political science. She is a Baldwin Scholar, a Resident Assistant and works as an Undergraduate Writing Tutor. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and going on exploratory runs through Durham.
Reem Alfahad, Editorial Board Member. Reem is a senior from Kuwait City. She studies Public Policy, Cultural Anthropology, and Ethics. Along with the Editorial Board, Reem is part of the Baldwin Scholars program, the First Year Advisory Counselor Board, and Dukes and Duchesses. She loves long dinners, spending time in coffee shops, and salsa dancing.
Will Carroll, Editorial Board Member. Will is a sophomore from San Francisco, California. He has yet to declare his major but counts East Asian Studies, Economics, and Public Policy as part of his academic interests. He has been part of the Editorial Board since 2013.
Emily Feng, Editorial Board Member. Emily is a senior majoring in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and Public Policy, with a minor in English. At Duke, she is president of the Duke East Asia Nexus, an East Asia studies student organization and a frequent writer for a variety of publications. She enjoys long distance running and a good story.
Wilson Fisher, Editorial Board Member. Wilson is a Trinity senior from Mountain Brook, Alabama. He is majoring in biology and pursuing a minor in classical civilizations. Wilson is also a member of the men’s varsity soccer team.
Jonathan Hill-Rorie, Editorial Board Member. Jonathan is a Trinity Senior from High Point, NC majoring in Evolutionary Anthropology, with a minor in Cultural Anthropology. He is involved primarily in the Center for Race Relations and NAACP. His interests include Marvel Comics, music, and social justice. He is also a Gates Millennium Scholar and Cardea Fellow.
Leonard Giarrano, Editorial Board Member. Leonard, a Trinity sophomore, was born in New York City and raised in Sarasota, Florida. He intends to major in computer science with a minor in philosophy. Besides the board, Leonard is involved with campus foreign policy organizations and is a Resident Assistant on East Campus. He enjoys reading philosophy, playing Tetris, and introducing his friends to board games.
Kristen Larson, Editorial Board Member. Kristen is a Trinity sophomore.
Eliza Moreno, Editorial Board Member. Eliza is a first-year Trinity student from Los Angeles, California. She has a strong interest in Global Health and environmental issues. She is involved with the Undergraduate Admissions Student Digital Media Team, an apprentice at the Women’s Center and a member of Mi Gente. In her spare time, she enjoys filming, volunteering around the area and bike riding to explore coffee shops and restaurants.
Brenda Onyango, Editorial Board Member. Brenda is a Trinity junior who lives in Marietta, Georgia and is majoring in Evolutionary Anthropology and minoring in Global Health. Brenda is a member of Future is Now, a mentoring program for young girls, and is a dancer in Nakisai ADE. Brenda is also a member of Duke's NAACP chapter.
Aron Rimanyi, Editorial Board Member. Aron is a Trinity freshman and A.B. Duke Scholar originally from Budapest, Hungary. He is considering majoring in political science, and is involved in several campus organizations focusing on politics and foreign policy. He enjoys learning French, traveling and reading the New York Times.
Wills Rooney, Editorial Board Member. Wills is a Trinity junior from Darien, CT, pursuing an interdepartmental major in economics and philosophy with a minor in Spanish. He is a member of the Varsity Cross Country and Track teams, a director of theological study at the Duke Catholic Center, a brother in Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, and, at home, a volunteer firefighter. In his free time, Wills can be found playing golf, enjoying a great meal, or watching sports.
Samuel Slezek, Editorial Board Member. Samuel is a Trinity junior.
Stanley Yuan, Editorial Board Member. Stanley is a junior majoring in Electrical Computer Engineering and Computer Science. At Duke, he has been involved in the Women's Center, Common Ground, and Peer for You. In addition, he is an active member of his living group, Ubuntu. During his free time, he enjoys playing basketball and reading ESPN.
Jonathan Zhao, Editorial Board Member. John is a junior from New Jersey majoring in economics and philosophy with a minor in political science. He is involved with the Duke Political Union and the club lacrosse team. He is most likely found either in Wilson or Perkins.
Michelle Menchaca, ex-officio non-voting member. Michelle is a Trinity junior from Sarasota, Fla. studying public policy and is The Chronicle's Editorial Page Editor for Spring 2015. She is a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and a fan of all things related to cats.
Danielle Muoio, ex-officio non-voting member. Danielle is a Trinity senior from Roslyn Harbor, N.Y., double majoring in English and History and was Editor of The Chronicle as a junior. When she is not editing articles in 301 Flowers, Danielle enjoys exploring the Durham food scene and philosophizing with interesting people.
Carleigh Stiehm, ex-officio non-voting member. Carleigh is a Trinity junior from Nokesville, Va. and Editor in Chief of The Chronicle. She is majoring in computer science, and when not in the office she enjoys people watching and eating Chipotle.
