The opinions in the daily editorial are formulated by 10 voting members of the board, who, as an independent group, are explicitly prohibited for writing or editing for other daily or weekly sections. Three ex-officio non-voting members serve in an advisory capacity based on other positions they hold in The Chronicle.
The members of the editorial board have diverse interests and a depth of knowledge about the University and the local community. The editorials are anonymously written by one voting member present at the meeting.
In an effort to be transparent, names and biographies of the members formulating the opinion, as well as non-voting members, are posted below.
Members of the 2015-2016 Editorial Board
Leonard Giarrano, Editorial Board Chair. Leonard is a Trinity junior from Sarasota, Florida. He is studying computer science and philosophy with an interest in law. He is an East Campus Resident Assistant and involved with the Duke Catholic Center and Alexander Hamilton Society. In his spare time, Leonard enjoys cheering for Duke basketball in Cameron and going on night runs.
Surabhi Beriwal, Editorial Board Member. Surabhi is a Trinity sophomore from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is undeclared but interested in studying either mathematics or statistics. She is an East Campus Resident Assistant, does research as a neurobiology Research Assistant and works as an Undergraduate Writing Tutor. Surabhi enjoys Duke basketball, Indian dance, spoken word poetry and Taekwondo in her free time.
Ernest Britt, Editorial Board Member. Ernest is a Trinity senior, studying for a double major in Political Science and English with a minor in Spanish. He is involved in campus with Duke Democrats, the Black Student Alliance and the School of Law's Center on Law, Race and Politics. In his spare time, Ernest enjoys multimedia project work, satire and keeping up with politics.
Will Carroll, Editorial Board Member. Will is a Trinity junior from San Francisco, California, majoring in Economics and East Asian Studies. He will be studying abroad this Fall.
Matt Hamilton, Editorial Board Member. Matt is a Trinity senior.
Eliza Moreno, Editorial Board Member. Eliza is a Trinity sophomore from Los Angeles, California. She has yet to declare a major but has strong interests in Global Health and environmental issues. She is involved with the Undergraduate Admissions Student Digital Media Team, the Women’s Center and Mi Gente. She enjoys filming, volunteering in the Durham area and biking to explore local coffee shops and restaurants.
Brenda Onyango, Editorial Board Member. Brenda is a Trinity senior who lives in Marietta, Georgia and is majoring in Evolutionary Anthropology with a minor in Global Health. Brenda is a member of the Duke Chapter of the NAACP as well as the Nakisai African Dance Ensemble and WHO. Outside of the Board, she enjoys engaging social justice issues and reading.
Aron Rimanyi, Editorial Board Member. Aron is an undeclared Trinity sophomore from Budapest, Hungary who is considering majoring in political science with minors in economics and mathematics. He is an A.B. Duke Scholar and involved in the Alexander Hamilton Society, American Grand Strategy program and Duke Political Science Standard. He enjoys French literature, studying Eastern Europe, traveling and archery.
Abhi Sanka, Editorial Board Member. Abhi is a Trinity senior from San Diego, California, studying public policy with a certificate in Genome Sciences & Policy. He was last year’s Executive Vice President of Duke Student Government. In his spare time, Abhi enjoys watching Duke basketball and keeping up with politics, sports and health affairs and policy.
Stanley Yuan, Editorial Board Member. Stanley Yuan is a Pratt Senior, double majoring in electrical and computer engineering and computer science. He is involved with the Women’s Center, Common Ground and Peer for You and is an active member of the Ubuntu living group. In his free time, Stanley enjoys playing basketball and following sports on ESPN.
Amrith Ramkumar, ex-officio non-voting member. Amrith is a Trinity junior from Norman, Okla., and is Editor-in-Chief of The Chronicle. He is double majoring in political science and statistics, and used to write for The Chronicle's Sports Department.
Carleigh Stiehm, ex-officio non-voting member. Carleigh is a Trinity senior from Nokesville, Virginia, majoring in computer science. She was the Editor in Chief of The Chronicle as a junior and, when not in the office, enjoys people watching and eating Chipotle.
Jonathan Zhao, ex-officio non-voting member. Jonathan is a Trinity senior from Princeton Junction, New Jersey with a double major in economics and philosophy and a minor in political science. He is The Chronicle’s 2015-2016 Editorial Page Editor and also on the club lacrosse team. John is interested in constitutional law, political and moral philosophy and Victorian literature.
