Spring practice hasn't even started yet, and Duke football is already getting bitten by the injury bug.

Head coach David Cutclffe announced Tuesday that freshman linebacker Dominic McDonald has undergone surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

A 6-foot-2, 240-pound native of Longwood, Fla., McDonald enrolled at Duke a semester early after graduating from Lake Brantley High School in December 2012. McDonald was one of four Blue Devil signees to enroll early this year.

During his senior season, he earned first-team all-state honors from the Associated Press and was ranked the No. 59 outside linebacker in the Class of 2013 by ESPN.com. Originally committed to Tennessee, McDonald switched his commitment to Duke and came to campus in January.

McDonald is expected to miss the Blue Devils' spring practice, which starts March 4 and concludes with the team's annual Spring Game April 13.
