For their new baseball coach, the Blue Devils just had to look to the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Duke announced the hiring of Chris Pollard as their new coach following the resignation of Sean McNally on May 30. Pollard was previously the head coach at Appalachian State in Boone, N.C.
In eight seasons as head coach of the Mountaineers, Pollard notched a 244-210-2 record, including six consecutive 32-win seasons. This season, Appalachian State went 41-18 record while winning the Southern Conference with a 21-9 record.
Pollard has also proven himself able of recruiting talent capable of playing at the next level with 13 of his recruits getting selected in the MLB draft during his tenure.
Before joining the Mountaineers in July of 2004 he had coached at Pfieffer since 2000. Prior to that he was an assistant coach at Davidson, where he played his collegiate ball as a pitcher from 1993-1996.
