ACC Watch: Notre Dame takes a tight win, Clemson pulls off second straight strong win

Every night of the college basketball season, the Blue Zone will bring you updates on all of the important ACC matchups.

After a slow Monday night for matchups, eight ACC teams were in action Tuesday—and all but one came away victorious.

Notre Dame 97, Dartmouth 87

The Fighting Irish had lost three of their last five games and fallen out of the rankings altogether, but Bonzie Colson put a stop to the bleeding Tuesday night. The senior scored 37 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help push Notre Dame past a pesky Big Green team that didn't go away.

After holding several first half leads, Dartmouth let Notre Dame pull away for the beginning of the second half, but rallied back to within three points with less than five minutes remaining. Colson and the Irish eventually pulled away, but the defensive struggles continued to plague the Fighting Irish, which has given up nearly 80 points per game since falling to Michigan State in November, excluding a laugher against St. Francis (Brooklyn).

Clemson 64, South Carolina 48

The Tigers are making a top-25 case for themselves, pulling off their second straight strong win against a extremely strong defensive team in the Gamecocks. After downing then-No. 22 Florida Saturday, Clemson got 25 points from junior guard Marcquise Reed and limited South Carolina to shoot just 2-of-16 from deep.

The other scores:

No. 13 Virginia 78, Savannah State 47

Syracuse 81, Buffalo 74

North Carolina State 81, Robert Morris 69

Virginia Tech 63, Presbyterian 55

Pittsburgh 74, Delaware State 68

Georgia 80, Georgia Tech 59

Check back Wednesday night to see if Duke can bounce back against Evansville, the No. 1 3-point shooting team in the nation.
