2018 NCAA tournament preview: No. 8 Seton Hall

Seton Hall Pirates: 21-11, 10-8 in the Big East Conference

Head coach: Kevin Willard (8th season)

Players to watch: Desi Rodriguez (17.8 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 50.3 FG%), Myles Powell (15.4 PPG, 2.9 APG, 1.0 SPG), Angel Delgado (13.3 PPG, 11.6 RPG, 0.7 BPG)

Season recap: Seton Hall got out to a strong start, winning 14 of its first 16 games including three victories against then-top-25 teams in Texas Tech, Louisville and Creighton. But the Pirates sputtered during the heart of conference play, losing seven of their next ten contests, including five consecutive road games.

Seton Hall would finish the season strong, winning three of their last four regular season games, with the lone loss coming in overtime, a 69-68 defeat at the hands of then-No. 4 Villanova. The Pirates ended Big East play with a victory against Butler to secure the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament, but they were ousted early, losing to Butler in the teams’ second consecutive matchup in the quarterfinals.

How they make a run: Senior Desi Rodriguez continues to score with efficiency and fellow senior Angel Delgado dominates the interior, overwhelming opposing offenses. The Pirates are big and quick and could be a scary first round matchup for anyone.

How they falter: Defense has been Seton Hall's Achilles heel the whole season. The Pirates have often struggled to contain opposing offenses and its offense has not done well in slugfests.
