Duke was ranked eighth by the US News and World Report for the third straight year, but took a hit in the "Most Innovative" category.

For the third year in a row, Duke ranked eighth in the U.S. News and World Report annual college rankings.

The new rankings places the University of Pennsylvania as tied for Duke’s spot at eighth. This year’s lineup remained largely the same, except for the California Institute of Technology falling out of the top 10. Duke was also ranked eighth for “Best Value Schools.”

Other North Carolina schools appeared in the top 50. Wake Forest University was ranked 27th and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ranked 30th in the listing. UNC was ranked fifth among public schools. Davidson College rated ninth for National Liberal Arts colleges.

Last year, Duke ranked seventh on the “Most Innovative Schools” list, but dropped to 12th this year. The University is also ranked 14th in “Undergraduate Teaching.”

Specific programs also got recognition. Duke's engineering program—located at the Pratt School of Engineering—was ranked 18th. The University's biomedical and biomedical engineering programs were both ranked third nationwide.

Duke was also third in the category "Colleges for Veterans."
