Sophomore Adam Wood placed second overall at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational with a three-day ledger of 12-under-par.

After a successful trip to Oregon last season, the Blue Devils doubled down with another productive three days on the West Coast.

Duke rode impressive performances from the trio of Max Greyserman, Adam Wood and Matt Oshrine to a runner-up finish at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational held from Sunday to Tuesday at Pumpkin Ridge in North Plains, Ore. The Blue Devils sat in third after the first two days of play, but moved up Tuesday to finish tied with Southern California for second place overall and just three strokes back of tournament champion No. 9 Wake Forest.

Duke’s 54-hole score of 826 matched a school record, and finishing 34-under-par set the all-time program standard. The Blue Devils' Monday score of 271 also eclipsed the previous school-low score, and that round trailed just Wake Forest’s 269 from Sunday as the best of the tournament. Duke's 36-hole score of 550 rounded out the trio of team records set this week.

After completing play Tuesday with 16 birdies on the back nine, Duke head coach Jamie Green explained that he thinks this tournament could be a big stepping stone for his team.

“I think this tournament really showed our guys what they’re capable of,” Green told GoDuke.com. “We’re not going to set school records every time out, but there are a lot of open doors in front of us.”

Greyserman starred for the Blue Devils as he shot a seven-under-par 65 Monday. No Duke golfer has scored better since Adam Long shot 64 in 2010, and the performance ranks fourth all-time in Duke history. The junior came back to the pack Tuesday, finishing with a two-over 74 on the day to end up tied for 11th in the individual competition, but Wood picked up the slack and shot a four-under 68 to place second individually at 12-under.

Oshrine shot a five-under-par 67 Tuesday to end up at seven-under-par for the tournament. Freshman Alex Smalley finished a combined four-under-par after the three days, and sophomore Jake Shuman shot five-over-par.

The Blue Devils sit 10th in the country in the latest Golf Week rankings, but this week they shot lower than four schools ranked in front of them—No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 6 Vanderbilt, No. 7 Stanford and No. 8 Georgia.

“This moment feels great and we’re going to enjoy it, but we’re also going to keep working and be focused on the future," Green said.

Duke will return to action Monday at the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate in Carmel, Ind.
