Dr. Steven Scott fills Board vacancy

A vacancy on the Board of Trustees has been filled by Dr. Steven Scott, the University announced Thursday.

Scott, chairman of medical investment company Scott Holdings LLC, will fill the spot until the end of the fiscal year, when he will be put forward for election for a six-year term to begin July 1. He will serve on the Business and Finance Committee, in addition to the Medical Center Academic Affairs Committee, according to a Duke News release.

Scott has several connections to the University, dating to his residency training at Duke Medical Center. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for Duke University Health System and is a member of the steering committee for the Duke Forward capital campaign. Scott also has an appointment as an assistant consulting professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the School of Medicine. He and his wife, Rebecca, donated $20 million to expand Duke's sports medicine programs in 2013, in addition to a $10 million gift to Duke athletics earlier that year.

Scott has also served as chair of the Board of Trustees at the University of Florida since June.
