Winter weather advisory in effect until noon

A winter weather advisory is in effect until noon Tuesday.

According to Duke News, University facilities crews will be treating roads early Tuesday morning. Currently, Duke administrators do not expect Tuesday classes to be affected.

Light sleet and freezing rain are expected until 2 a.m. Tuesday, at which point there will be periods of light freezing rain throughout the rest of the morning, according to a forecast from the National Weather Service.

The advisory was extended from its initial cap of 7 p.m. Monday as a result of declining conditions, and Duke officials encouraged students and staff to exercise caution around campus because icy patches could develop.

Interstate 85 moving southbound near U.S. Highway 70 was closed briefly Monday night due to an accident and icy roads, Duke News reported.

This round of potentially dangerous weather comes after a winter that saw four snow days when classes were disrupted.
