The Duke University Police Department has obtained an arrest warrant for Michael J. Andrews of New Palestine, Ind., charging him with one count of misdemeanor sexual battery, according to Chief of Duke Police John Dailey.

Andrews assaulted an unnamed female on an outdoor stairway between Few and Keohane Quad, according to a Duke Alert sent at 4:13 PM. The 31-year-old does not appear to have any relation to the University at this time, Dailey said.

The victim called Duke Police Thursday afternoon to report being inappropriately touched, Dailey said. Dailey clarified this description as "reaching under the person's clothes." Duke Police was able to obtain a photo of the suspect through contact with other law enforcement agencies.

DUPD is participating in an ongoing investigation for the suspect's arrest, Dailey said, adding that Andrews had not been charged with this crime previously.

The suspect is driving a blue Chevy minivan with Indiana license tag 205-LGV, Dailey said. This information has been released to law enforcement throughout the Triangle area.
