Sound Off: Career Fair

Generic Script

Special to the Chronicle

Instead of sweatpants and tennis shoes, this Wednesday brought students in suit and tie to Wilson Recreation center for a Career Fair hosted by the Career Center. Students of all years were invited to attend and give their resumes to various companies, many of which have Duke alumni among their ranks. The Chronicle's Patricia Spears spoke to some of the members in attendance.

“There’s a lot of people coming, and a lot of happy people leaving.”

sophomore Zamantha Granados

“We’re very impressed by…a couple of frehsmen who came by the table. That’s been my biggest surprise.”

-Svetlana Torres, ’00, Raymond James

“Having Techconnect before this…let’s you prioritize for today. I’ve got no complaints.”

-junior Mark Gockowski

“You get a lot of people who are…go-getters that are interested in something different.” -

-Shane Strumhausser, Burger King

“Once you get here and realize that a lot of them are Duke graduates, it brings down the pressure.”

-senior Niara Wright

“I have been here for a number of years, and I feel Duke students have good potential…and are interesting.”

-Dr. Margaret Grission, Southern Teachers Agency
