Woman arrested in connection with Duke Garden robberies

A woman was arrested Friday in connection with the two armed robberies that occurred in Duke Gardens in July.

Twenty-year-old Tamisha Thompson was arrested on Thursday night by Durham police officers and is being held on $1 million bond at Durham County Jail. Thompson is being charged with four counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and other crimes.

A second perpetrator, Denshawn Thompson, also 20, has been charged as well. An arrest warrant was issued for both Tamisha and Denshawn on July 31, but so far Denshawn has not been found.

Each instance of robbery included multiple criminal violations, such as financial card theft, Duke Police Chief John Dailey wrote in an email Friday. He also noted that one of the robberies involved multiple victims, resulting in the increased number of charges.

The robberies occurred in the Duke Gardens on July 15 and July 25. In each case, the victims were unharmed.

Duke Police has reported three armed robberies this summer. In addition to the two instances in the gardens, two individuals were robbed at Main Street at Buchanan Boulevard July 13. The victims were not injured in this case as well.

Dailey noted that the town magistrate sets the bond based on many factors, and could not point to one reason why the bond in Tamisha's case was set particularly high.
